PROBIOTICS (super shield)? Is there anything bad about them?

Hello, I was wondering if probiotics are healthy and something a 16 year old should take? Is there anything bad that could happen in the present or future after taking the Super Shield capsule which contains a minimum 7.25 billion CFUs . Should I take them to help my digestive disorder instead of the recommended prilosec?
The probiotic we are considering her to take is called super shield from blue rock holistics.

There are a few aspects to this answer. First, most 16 year olds shouldn’t “need” Probiotics unless they have taken an antibiotic (in which case, they would need to replenish the good bacteria that the antibiotic would have killed off), but it wouldn’t hurt to take it.

Second, whenever you go from no added Probiotics in your diet to taking a high dose Probiotic, you’re more than likely going to have loose stools if not diarrhea… but that clears up within a day or two. It’s just your body’s natural way of regulating itself and evening things out.

Third, Probiotics are not for heartburn or acid reflux. They help with regularity and absorption of nutrients in the intestinal tract. I have heard of a lot of people who got help from Apple Cider Vinegar for heartburn because heartburn can be caused not just by too much acid, but also by not enough acid. The minor acidity in the ACV tricks your stomach into thinking there is the proper amount of acid, so it won’t create too much and will create as much as it needs.

Fourth, 7.25 billion organisms is a pretty high dose for maintenance. It’s a good high dose for recovery (like after an antibiotic), but may be too strong for some people (including younger people) for maintenance. You should be able to find a good formula (at least 2-4 strains is good) that’s around 3-5 billion organisms and it’ll probably be much cheaper than what I’m seeing for Super Shield. If you would like help with regularity, I would shop around for a formula like that. Good luck with everything and I hope I helped!
