Do you think priests in Church take meditation and yoga s a threat to their religion..?
Meditation .. And yoga practices.. taught in Upnishids and vedas..in Hindu Dharma..then there is long list of religions which practice few techniques of meditation. but meditatoion is no ones monopoly.. no matter if Pantjali wrote it.. Buddha spreaded it or mahavir.talked about it..And lots of sufi enlightened people they all talked of meditaion realization and ..love.. But meditaion can not be called any ones monopoly no matter if Hindu Dharma being the orgin but they dont bother to seek patents for it just some european ideats do..one can do meditaion without beliving any dharma..then why is it so that christin priests sees it as a threat..is it the power of tarsformation which meditation posses..or doesnt it shows the nervousness among them. why are they so against it when lots of my christian friends love doing it.
Of course, as I’m trying to practice Buddhism, I’m not neutral on this.
I did hear that the previous Pope has spoken against the Buddhist meditation postures – Catholics apparently need to kneel. (I’m not sure if this is found anywhere in the Bible or if this is just Catholic dogma.)
At the same time, Christian monks and nuns meditate in their own way, so it cannot be all wrong.
However, I think the church is, and always has been, afraid of people who develop insight and wisdom for themselves, because their findings may not be exactly the same as what is preached in church. In that way, quite a few mystics in the Middle and Dark Ages got themselves into trouble.
So, if you prefer to go merely on blind faith in what the church teaches you, perhaps it is better NOT to try and meditate…
Love & clear light,
Rudy

Peace Is Every Step: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life $6.96 Thich Nhat Hanh’s writing is deceptive in its subtlety. He’ll go on and on with stories about tree-hugging or metaphors involving raw potatoes; he’ll tell you how to eat mindfully, even how to breathe and walk; he’ll suggest looking closely at a flower and to see the sun as your heart. As the Zen teacher Richard Baker commented, however, Nhat Hanh is “a cross between a cloud, a snail, and pi… |

Christian Meditation Inspired by Yoga and "A Course in Miracles" $23.08 Christian Meditation is a sacred activity nourishing your faith that "the Kingdom of God is within you." This comprehensive instruction manual presents unique meditation techniques inspired by yoga that include coordinating the breathing and focusing on different parts of the body. These meditation methods are integrated into an entirely Christian context in which the number one priority is reliance on the action and grace of the Holy Spirit. This book is divided into four parts: Part one describes clear and structured practices of Christian meditation, including the option of a 28-day meditation schedule for beginners to make a specific commitment to their inner spiritual growth. Part two provides guidelines for how intermediate meditators can deepen their meditation experience. Part three focuses on meditation related to overall spiritual growth. Part four shows how to practice meditation as a way of inwardly forgiving yourself as it is described in the philosophy of "A Course in Miracles."Although the word "yoga" is usually translated as "union," it can also be interpreted as "integration." The overall effect of combining traditional Christian attunement methods and nontraditional meditation techniques inspired by yoga is to bring about an integration and unification of the various levels of your being and to deepen your meditation experience. However, these methods are only the beginning of this integration and unification process. The purpose of these meditation techniques is to prepare you for entering wordless contemplation, which is an experience of resting in the embrace of divine love. During contemplation there is an overshadowing of the Holy Spirit in which the mind becomes still without needing a specific focusing object. Through contemplation the Holy Spirit can lead you to a greater degree of integration and unification that will transform you and lead toward your ultimate destiny of awakening to divine union with God. |

The Joy of Meditation: An Introduction to Meditation Techniques $10.55 This book is not about meditation; it is one on how to meditate. All too many books offer readers sparse instructions given in general terms. "Sit quietly, with your eyes closed. Regulate your breathing and still your mind; wait for the Voice of Silence to speak to you." Trouble is, without knowing what they’re doing, would-be meditators find it extremely difficult to sit still for five minutes, let alone twenty. Experienced meditators, knowing the techniques to use, go about their business as directly and purposefully as a skilled carpenter. The fact is that there is nothing vague about the process of meditation. In this classic work, author and teacher Justin F. Stone presents easy-to-follow instructions for many common forms of meditation, including Zazen (Zen Meditation), Japa (one of the oldest spiritual practices in India), Satipatthana (Mindfulness), Nei Kung (Buddhist Meditation), and Tibetan meditations. Meditation can be a powerful tool to improve health, sharpen concentration, reduce stress, and enhance spirituality. The Joy of Meditation was created as a simple book of instructions for using that tool. |

Meditation Techniques for Stress Management $13.45 For a number of reasons, meditation tends to be overlooked as a potential tool for stress reduction. The many benefits of the practice can be obscured by its reputation as a "touchy-feely," spiritualistic practice, one favored by hippies contorted into uncomfortable positions while changing meaningless sounds. This image of meditating has, unfortunately, discouraged many people who could potentially benefit from utilizing some of the host of meditation techniques available from learning meditation and trying it out. The authors hope that this book will support those who have been curious about meditation, but are unsure of how to get started. We also hope that the book will encourage those who have not seriously considered meditation as a means to greater peace of mind to explore its possibilities. Finally, we hope that the book will offer opportunities, through the practice of meditation, to help readers enhance their sense of calm, relaxation and well being. |

The Essence of Christian Meditation $11.6 Christians? Have you ever been told that meditation is not Christian, or that it has no biblical basis? Do you long for a deeper and more personal relationship with God? Today’s Christians have too often misunderstood meditation and its place in their faith tradition. Many of us have heard that meditation belongs only to Buddhism or other Eastern spiritual practices. In this short volume, William E. DeWitt outlines the scriptural basis for meditation and how it allows us to find the Holy Spirit within ourselves. We spend most of our time in our busy minds, but meditation leads us from our minds to our hearts, where Christ lives. Unlike basic meditation, which is often centered on the self, Christian meditation helps us make Christ the center of our lives. It is not a technique, DeWitt emphasizes, but a spiritual discipline. A lifelong Christian, DeWitt discovered later in life that regular meditation adds a rich dimension to his faith, enhancing his understanding of the Bible and deepening his relationship not only with God but with those around him. In simple, straightforward language, he demystifies meditation practice, the greatest experience of God’s grace he has ever known besides salvation itself. If you are seeking a more peaceful heart and greater spiritual fulfillment, learn more about what DeWitt calls this gift from God. |
