Dog tired after injury?

My dog has an eye injury that is being treated by a vet. My question is, it is normal for him to be very tired, sleeping and not really energetic while he is healing? He mostly just wants to sleep all day although he will get up and act excited if I offer him a treat or take him outside. Do dogs just naturally know they need to rest to heal, or should I be worried about him? He is eating and going to the bathroom normally.
