Help with explaining the breathin rate after achieving some concentration during mindfulness meditation?

I am a beginner to the practice of mindfulness meditation / Vipassana and have been practicing it for last 3 weeks for an hour a day at least. In the least few days, I feel I have been able to progress along the concentration curve. However, as I reach this enhanced concentration state, I feel my involuntary / natural breathing slowing down to uncomfortable levels. As I have read that the rate of breathing should not be controlled during meditation, I am just letting the body do what it wants. However, at that slow a rate, I feel that maybe next breath will take too long to come and I start becoming anxious, I then have to force myself into breathing long and deep. But this voluntary action disturbs my concentration and I unable to move forward from there.

Please guide me on the phenomenon and what are the remedies?

Try to NOT concentrate so much – I think you are psyching yourself out. Just let you thoughts flow where they will and let your body take care of the breathing for you. If you need to, start out exhaling for a count of three, then inhaling for a count of three – then gradually increase the amount of time to about six (six counts in and six counts out). I wouldn’t try any higher than that because you might make yourself light-headed.
