Medical problems after blood loss?

Researching the effects of stab wounds for a voluntary medicine workshop, and part of it is diagnosis. I have written about anaemia, shock, transfusion and that sort of thing but can there be problems after the person has seemed to recover? The case is where a boy suffered from stab wounds to the forearm. He lost a lot of blood but was saved. He was kept in hospital even after he had recovered because he needed to have an operation (the bones in his arm had been damaged and needed to be fitted together so they could heal). During his stay, he was happy and alert at first but seemed to decline and start to suffer from the symptoms of blood loss. What could it have been? (luckily the doctors knew and saved him, but we have to find out for the fun of the study)

He likely developed a reaction to the transfusion’ that caused the red blood cells that were transfused to have a shortened life by hemolysis or breaking up. This can be caused by transfusing blood that is old or mismatched. Hemolytic reactions can occur due to immune reactions to drugs usually antibiotics which this person would have received. I suggest that as a student you read about the different causes of hemolytic reactions and Coombs tests. Best wishes.

Academic Scientific Workshops $149.76 Academic scientific workshops are one model used to foster interdisciplinary communication and collaborative research, provide an effective tool for the transmission of information and construction of knowledge. This assessment is the result of an analytical case study of one activity interdisciplinary workshops, at the Santa Fe Institute. Measures of effectiveness were obtained through survey analysis, content analysis of survey responses, and discourse analysis of discussion sections of one workshop. Over the course of year 20032004, participants from ten different interdisciplinary scientific workshops were surveyed regarding their workshop experience within two weeks of a workshops completion. Six months later, participants from one workshop were surveyed again to gauge longterm impact. Simple survey results suggest participants find these kinds of workshops valuable forums to engage in interdisciplinary communication and foster collaboration.
