Why won’t my dog eat?

My dog hasn’t been eating since last Saturday we don’t know why.. Then her vet gave us a powder something that you mix in her water so that she would still have energy and be energized to eat.. Yesterday, Thursday, after she drank her water with the powder the vet gave us, She ate like 3 times. But it wasn’t that many. Then now, she ate her food, but she wants it with water. And she wants it like moist.. We don’t know why.. This is our 3rd time changing her food. We started with Eukanuba, then Holistic Recipe and now her current food is Science Diet. She already ate 3 biscuits right now which is IAMS (Vet Recommended.) then after hours she ate her food with water.. We just changed her food 2 months ago.. Is she already tired of her food?

If your dog has been refusing her food, I suspect that you have been tempting her to eat and giving her treats when she refuses her food. NEVER EVER TEMPT A DOG TO EAT. If a dog is ill, this can upset her stomach and if she is not ill you will turn her into a picky eater.

Try this. Prepare her food, if it’s dried food soak this in warm water to make it more appealing, then leave it out of her reach whilst you eat a biscuit. Make yum yum noises and walk away. Go back and stand near her food bowl and eat another biscuit and do the yum yum noises again. Tell her to sit and then put her food down and give her permission to eat. Count to TEN yes TEN and if she does not make any attempt to eat it, pick it up. You must then wait until her next feed is due without giving her any treats or any other food. Then go through the above procedure again
I will be surprised if you need to pick it up a third time. While she is eating this walk away, don’t praise her for eating her dinner and do not make any fuss. The next time that she is due for a feed, prepare it, eat a biscuit and afterwards put her food down and walk away. If this does not work, take her to the vets.

However, there is also a possibility that the food that you are giving her is causing digestive problems. It has been discovered that numerous dogs have problems because of the grain in conventional dog food.
If your present dog food contains grain, put your dog on a light diet for a few days. Perhaps your dog knows that the food she has been getting gives her a grotty tummy. Until you get organised with a grain free food cook fish or chicken, (get rid of the skin and bones) and mix this with soggy rice (that’s rice which has been cooked for a long time in a more water than usual). Or do scrambled eggs in water, (never give a dog cows milk). Feed her several SMALL meals a day without tempting her to eat and investigate grain free dog food on the Internet.
