Is insurance likely to cover fees at a holistic health clinic?
I’m curious because people on both sides of my family have poor health…a lot of which has to do with diet, but I’m really hoping that their health isn’t a consequence of genetics because I’m very healthy and rarely get sick (aside from allergies, which again I rarely take medication for). On the other hand, many of my family members take copious amounts of pills and go to the doctor like hypochondriacs. In the event some of this IS genetic, I’d rather go to a holistic health clinic because I don’t believe in the efficiency of just taking a pill to fix everything. I would rather go to one with or without insurance, it’s just good to know.
Unfortunately, insurance doesn’t tend to cover much of anything preventative… they are more of the mindset to pay for repairing damage (injury, illness, etc) than preventative (since you couldn’t prove that you would have gotten what you are preventing without it).
On the flip side, if you are typically always healthy, it’s not likely genetic… it might actually be that they have “poor health” due to side effects of several of the pills they are each taking (I’ve seen it happen more than a few times before), especially if it’s more of lethargy or just “not feeling right”. Most all drugs have some side effects because they force a reaction or prevent a normal bodily reaction so it’s a good idea to avoid them if they aren’t needed.
To be perfectly blunt, you may want to foot the couple hundred dollars for the visit if you want to be on the safe side. If the holistic clinic can tell you if the ailments are genetic, it may be worth the money so you can at least know if you need to take any extra effort (exercise, certain foods/supplements added to your diet, etc) to prevent or minimize the ailment(s) than to have to do the corrective things the insurance will cover down the line.
