Holistic pediatrician?
Hi. I was just wondering if any parents have tried using a holistic pediatrician for their kids & what the experience was like. Pros cons? did you use a conventional ped simultaneously with a holistic one?
I am not, personally, a mother. However, I might be able to help. I babysit for a little boy whose mother is a holistic doctor.
The pros are…
- Their practices are much more patient-friendly, meaning you will have more say in what happens.
- You will usually get less invasive, and potentially less dangerous practices out of a holistic doctor.
- They will use all natural processes, which is just generally better for the body than artificial things. They are also very trained, so this shouldn’t be an issue.
- Holistic medicine is great for things like asthma and allergies.
The cons are…
- Obviously, a holistic doctor is not an MD, and are thus less qualified.
- A holistic doctor will not be able to help much in times of real medical emergency that would require Western medicine.
- As many doctors are against holistic medicine, holistic doctors often feel the same way about MDs, so be cautious.
- Western medicine is great for all bacterial illness as well as, god forbid, other major medical issues.
If you choose to use a holistic pediatrician, I would definitely couple it with an MD in the case of the need for Western medicine.
