Anyone have any info in holistic/homeopathic therapy for herniated disk?

I am 27 years old, have always had back issues & recently was diagnosed with a herniated disk. I refuse to live everyday on painkillers & just really dont want to think about surgery at such a young age. I am hoping with time I myself can work on the problem but am having difficulty finding info on holistic therapy, supplements or anything…anyone have any info, or websites?

Sorry to hear about your back, my mother has had degenerative bone disease for about 5 years and has herniated and ruptured multiple disks, I have an idea of how much pain you must be in. I recomend consulting with a pain managment specialist, or visiting a pain clinic your doctor should be able to recomend one to you. Many pain specialists take a holistic approach to treatment because they understand that the amount of pain you are in has a lot to do with the way you percieve pain, as much or more than the physiological reasons. They often work hand in hand with physical therapists and they will teach you movement teqchniques that will help you to avoid further injury and/or pain and also help you to identify and avoid potential situations that may aggravate your condition. Often psychlogical counseling can be a component to their treatment, again because a positive and confident person will usually percieve their pain to be less severe than that of a depressed and/or angry person. I’m not sure where you live or what resources you have, but there are pain clinics in most major cities, however, they can be expensive.

Holistic medicine = an approach to medicine that takes into consideration all aspects of a person (mental, physical, spiritual, life-style etc.) in assesing health and treatment. It is used in both mainstream and althernative medicine.

Homeopathic Medicine = pure quakery. there is no actual active ingrediant in their “medicines” it is pure dilute(water) and maybe some alcohol, lactose, and/or sugar. It has been widely dscredited by the mainstream medical community and by many in the alternative health community. Many homeopaths use a holistic approach and this is why the two terms are often used together.

EDIT: Usually chiropractic treatment is not recomended for a herneated disk due to the high risk of further injury. Many chiropractors will not treat a patient with a hernated disk.

Mr. Nuetral: Ok, when did I say that a structural problem could be fixed with a vitamin? Of course not. Secondly, several of my famly members are chiropractors and not one of them will adjust anyone with a diagnosed herniated disk, if you are really a chiropractor I am surprised that you would be willing to risk injury to your patients. There are other forms of physical therapy as an option. My sources are biased? why, because they don’t agree with you? They are written by very educated medical doctors. Me, biased? Only toward homeopathic “medicine” because it is pure quakery and if you had any understanding of it, I think you’d agree. Deluded? I don’t think so. Educated? Yes, very.
