Can anyone tell me about wht they know about the Institute for Integrative Nutrition?
They are not regionally accredited (that’s the most respected kind of accreditation). The accreditation they do have is from the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, which isn’t recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Recognition by the Department of Ed is generally considered a minimal standard of quality for an accrediting agency. Without it, schools can’t qualify to offer government-backed student loans and other federal financial aid to their students. I don’t know for sure, but if you’ll be looking for a job with an institution like a hospital or a school, this may also mean that they won’t recognize a credential you receive from a school with this type of accreditation.
In addition, the American Association of Drugless Practitioners shows up on a few lists of questionable accrediting agencies when I Googled that name. Now, those lists are mostly put out by people and organizations who are very skeptical of any sort of non-Western, out-of-the-mainstreaming forms of medicine and healing. You have to decide for yourself who are the most credible sources here. But do be aware that a lot of people will look at this as a fly-by-night, not-very-legitimate school!
In any case, there may be less-iffy places to study nutrition. Take a look at Bastyr University near Seattle. They are regionally accredited and very well-respected in the alternative medicine field. They have bachelors and masters degree programs in nutrition that would be much more widely accepted and respected than a program at this school.
