Effectiveness of an Online Learning Environment $100.37 Online learning or elearning is becoming an emergent learning method that several institutions have deployed at their organizations. Initial achievements of online learning environment have partially proved its outstanding features. However, a comprehensive evaluation of the existing online learning systems is necessary, especially effective evaluation of online learning environment comparing with traditional learning environment. In this book, a framework to measure comparative effectiveness between two these learning environments was developed based on Kirkpatricks fourlevels evaluation model and then a case study was applied to test two first levels of the framework. These four evaluation levels include participants reaction, learning achievements, behaviour of students, and results. The results of data analysis based on hypothesis testing indicated that between two first levels that were tested there is a significant difference in students learning achievements in favor of online learning method. Assessing Online Learning Readiness $156.13 Distance learning research has suffered from an inconsistency and lack of comparability of conceptualizations and instrumentation. A commonly accepted online readiness instrument could improve this situation for readiness studies. A valid online readiness assessment could result in higher student success rates as evidenced by increased grades in online classes, lower attrition rates in online classes, maximization of investment in distance learning funding, increased student and faculty satisfaction, and expanded potential for lifelong learning. Evaluating Online Learning Environments $154.53 Increasingly the perceived benefits of using networked computers, software applications and computer simulations in learning activities are being exploited at all educational levels and within all curricula areas. As webbased and online software applications such as browsers, search engines, communication tools and databases mature, so does educators use of this medium for teaching and learning. How we can investigate the impact of these technologies upon the educational experiences of learners is the fundamental concept addressed by this study. The study concludes by presenting a new learning environment instrument, the Online Learning Environment Survey (OLLES), that will allow conclusions to be drawn about student perceptions on the interactions occurring in their online environments in an economical and efficient manner. Interaction in Online Learning Environments $114.71 Collaboration promoted and supported by instructional technology has the potential to lead learners to deeper understanding and knowledge building. There have been optimistic views that any webbased interaction can be educationally valuable. However, online learning environments do not, as such, guarantee that learners will achieve genuine collaboration. It seems that there are several difficulties facing those who wish to employ online learning environments as a medium for productive learner interaction. The particular aim of this exploration of interaction and learning in computersupported collaborative learning environments was to study the interplay between learners and consider the ways in which they built and maintained common ground so as to enable themselves to work and learn together. Another aim was to look at the effects of scripting interaction with a view to finding out how scripting can enhance or hamper collaboration. The work opens up a perspective on online communication as a distinctive type of human interchange whose special features challenge designers, researchers, teachers and learners involved in computersupported collaborative learning. Online and FaceToFace Learning $132.24 With moreandmore collegiate students taking courses online questions remain regarding how instructors can best deliver their materials. Dr. Bentzs research takes the unique double comparative approach by exploring both teaching presence and instructor satisfaction from a large sample of students taking an introductory Food Science course from one professor who teaches these students both online and facetoface simultaneously. Within this research Bentz validates the use of Shea, P., Fredericksn, E., Picket, A., amp; Pelz, W.s (2003) Online Teaching and Learning Questionnaire within facetoface learning environments as he broadens the research landscape surrounding the Community of Inquiry Model. His compelling findings demonstrate here that courses with large populations taught both online and face toface by one single instructor suggest that student perceptions do not show high regard for their instructors teaching immediacy behaviors or of their satisfaction with the instructors overall teaching performance. Online Discussions in Blended Learning $114.71 The Internet is increasingly being used in higher education in several countries in the last decade, resulting in online, blended, and webenhanced course offerings for students. Instructors who experiment with computermediated communication tools like discussion forums, chat rooms, and blogs to facilitate course discussions struggle to combine both online and classroom discussions effectively. This book presents two models for the integration of online discussions into the classroom to enhance student learning. Based on qualitative research in two university courses that used Blackboard, several benefits of these two models for instructors and students with different teaching and learning styles are discussed in this book. It also provides insight into the role of instructional design, instructor participation, and instructor feedback in webenhanced instruction. This book contains strategies for effectively using and facilitating asynchronous online discussions that will be of special interest to teachers, educators, practitioners, trainers, educational technologists, and curriculum designers seeking to design and implement blended instruction. OnLine Learning in Neural Networks $226.23 Online learning is one of the most commonly used techniques for training neural networks. Though it has been used successfully in many realworld applications, most training methods are based on heuristic observations. The lack of theoretical support damages the credibility as well as the efficiency of neural networks training, making it hard to choose reliable or optimal methods. This book presents a coherent picture of the state of the art in the theoretical analysis of online learning. An introduction relates the subject to other developments in neural networks and explains the overall picture. Surveys by leading experts in the field combine new and established material and enable nonexperts to learn more about the techniques and methods used. This book, the first in the area, provides a comprehensive view of the subject and will be welcomed by mathematicians, scientists and engineers, both in industry and academia. Professional Online Learning Processes $154.53 Teachers slowly became aware of the possibilities of technology as a mediator in teachinglearning processes. They was well aware of the importance of taking into account all the diverse factors that influence learning: its necessary to provide training closely linked to students professional daily lives, that it was fundamental to establish a climate of acceptance and trust in the classroom, and pay close attention to interaction with students at the same time as guiding them in carrying out the tasks that would enable them to build knowledge, etc. These were factors we was used to taking into account when delivering classroom training but we soon realised that they were also important in my role as an online teacher. I was surprised to discover that technology offered both the students and me the tools needed for mediating in teaching learning processes, without losing the quality of human contact.
