I found a tiny cluster of quartz crystals while hiking, how do I clean them and make them into jewelry?

I found a cluster of quartz crystals while hiking and I was wondering if it is possible to turn them into jewelry. If so, what is the process? How do you cut the crystals cleanly without chipping them off so you can make little pieces of jewelry? I love making jewelry and I would love to learn how to work with raw crystals.

Cutting the crystals will require a diamond blade saw. Lapidary equipment is not cheap. The hobby is fun and I think the investment in the equipment is worthwhile. But not everyone can afford to buy the equipment.

If you have small clusters, you can made a wire wrap setting for them to use as a drop on a necklace, or even earrings if they are small enough. Wire wrapping is the easiest and cheapest way to use them in jewelry. That would not require a lapidary saw and polishing equipment. If they are too large to use as is, you might try cutting them with a diamond blade or carborundum blade for a dremel tool. You should lube the blade, water should work. Just don’t over heat the blade by cutting too long at a time and you should be fine.
