Hi everyone,

Any practitioner with at least a Level II attunement is able to give reiki from a distance. But you can’t just ask them to give someone else reiki; they need to have the permission of the person they will be treating. It’s important that they be aware of what’s happening and are ok with it. I also think that before seeking this for someone else, you should have a treatment done on yourself, so you understand what it’s about and what it feels like. It’s also important to understand that reiki is not a miracle cure-all. No respectable reiki practitioner would ever promise miraculous results. It doesn’t mend broken bones or cure cancer or anything like that. It simply helps to balance the body’s energy, which in turn gives the body, or the mind, the chance to help itself. It first affects the aspects of the body, mind, or soul that are most in need of regaining balance, which may or may not be the cause of the complaint that brought the person to seek the reiki in the first place.

I’m trying to find an online directory of practitioners and I am having no luck at all. Best thing I can suggest is either asking around at new-age-type places like whole food stores and yoga studios to see if anyone knows of a practitioner in the area, or just trying a Google search for reiki practitioners and checking people out until you find one that seems to click with you. Reiki folks are really big into trusting intuition so they’d be delighted if you just felt they were right for your situation.

It’s commendable that you feel sympathy for someone else and want to help them in any way possible, even seeking out treatments you’ve only heard of in passing on the chance that something might work. Your love and empathy for this person is going to be beneficial to them, whatever the outcome of any treatments given.
